BBIP/WILTA Immersion Weekend

1700 Fri 25 May – 1130 Sun 27 May 2012

at the campus of Schools of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) 164 - 194 Oxford St Leederville WA

This unique professional learning opportunity is proudly presented by the Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth (BBIP) in cooperation with WILTA as part of the Commonwealth funded BBIP Community partnerships to stimulate and support Indonesian Language Programs.

This immersion weekend is aimed at supporting teachers to improve their Indonesian fluency in a semi or full immersion setting within a friendly, relaxed environment guided by expert background teachers of Indonesian. It is therefore highly recommended for teachers of Indonesian at any level.

Special guest presenters from Indonesia, Mr Muhammad Bundhowi and Mr Nyoman Riasa will deliver the group-based language practice sessions and will each present a plenary session during the weekend. Assisting in the immersion activities will be the WILTA/IALF RTV participant Pak Adi.

Activities in the immersion classes will be varied and interactive and incorporate the teaching and learning of intercultural understandings. During the weekend there will be opportunities for participants to be immersed in and experience various arts and cultures from across Indonesia.

During the small group immersion/semi-immersion there will be an emphasis on communication focused mainly on listening and responding with opportunities also for viewing, reading and responding in Indonesian. The direct teaching of grammar points will support the acquisition of communicative competence in Indonesian.
