Keynote speaker, Dr Lindy Norris is a Senior Lecturer in Education at Murdoch University. She works in the areas of second language research, professional development for language educators, curriculum design, and program evaluation and change management. Her current research interests are wide ranging. She is particularly interested in investigating issues associated with the place of second languages within school power and curricular constructs. In addition, she is working on a number of projects associated with second language socialization and the development of intercultural competence. Her responsibilities at Murdoch University include managing the Applied Language Education programs as well as coordinating a number of units associated with Languages Education and with initial teacher education.

Drama and Theatre:
Reciprocal Visiting Teacher Ibu Ruth from the

Indonesian Australian Language Foundation (IALF) in Surabaya, Ibu Ruth Widiastuti will present a workshop on using Indonesian folklore (drama) for teaching Bahasa Indonesia at a primary level.


Are You Blogging This?
The best way to learn about blogging is to do it! In this workshop, participants will become bloggers and explore the possibilities for learning, teaching and promoting Indonesian through blogging.  A "blog" is a webpage that is regularly updated and forms a great platform for publishing both student and teacher work to a wide, participatory, audience.


Film screening: Perbatasan / Boundaries: Lucia Hartini, Paintings From a Life
Features the life and art of Indonesian surrealist painter, Lucia Hartini. This 42 minute documentary was filmed between January 1998 and September 2001, during the early stages of Reformasi on location in Yogyakarta. After the screening, the filmmaker Jennifer Dudley will suggest ways in the text can be integrated into secondary Indonesian contexts.


Olympics Ideas for Primary Classrooms
Explore possibilities for enhancing your language program by engaging students’ interest in the Beijing Olympics. Collect resources and ideas for learning activities that include language practice and language use in speaking and listening, viewing and reading and writing. This workshop is presented by Moya McLachlan, Coordinator, Professional Learning at WestOne Services.


Ada Apa di Kelas Kita?
Ibu Tiana Purba Barnard, Indonesian Teacher at Mt Tarcoola Primary School in Geraldton will give practical tips on managing student behaviour in the primary LOTE context.


Reciprocal Teacher Visit
2008 recipient, Ibu Dani Danudara will present her RTV experience teaching at IALF and SD Sesetan in Bali in January and discuss the process of applying for this rewarding programme.  Application forms and information about the 2009 programme will be available.


Tarian Jai
Alexander Due is one of four DET Indonesian Language Assistants in Perth during 2008.  In this workshop Pak Alex will teach the Tarian Jai, a traditional dance from Flores.
